A man who told deputies he is homeless made a BMW and a home next to the Naples Pier his own while the owners were away, Collier County deputies said.
Ivan Mauricio Zegarra, 20, was charged with auto theft and burglary, according to an arrest report from the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
Naples police received a report May 31 of the stolen 2016 BMW and used the car's anti-theft GPS tracking system to find it near Livingston Road and Golden Gate Parkway.
Deputies pulled Zegarra over near Orchid Run apartments with a female passenger, who said she has been a friend of Zegarra for years.
The passenger told deputies that Zegarra had told her he was allowed to stay at the home in the 100 block of 12th Avenue South as long as he cleaned it. That was untrue, deputies reported.
Zegarra's friend told authorities that the two had stayed at the house some nights and that he'd been driving the BMW for more than a week.
